Wesley Snipes was born on July 31, 1962 in Orlando, Florida to Marian and Wesley Rudolph Snipes. Her mother was a teaching assistant and her father was an aeronautical engineer. His father retired from the US Air Force with the rank of MSGT. Wesley also has a younger half-brother AD Snipes, a comedian living in San Antonio, Texas. Snipes began training in martial arts at the age of 12 and holds a black belt in several styles of karate. He is also trained in a number of other disciplines including kung fu, Brazilian jiu jitsu and kickboxing. As a young man, Snipes attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York and later graduated from Jones High School. He returned to New York where he attended the State University of New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
In 1985, Snipes married April Dubois and together the couple had a son, Jelani. They split in 1990 after dating for five years. In 2003 he married painter Nakyung “Nikki” Park, with whom he has four children.

Wesley was spotted by an agent at the age of 23 while performing in a beauty pageant. He landed his first role in the 1986 film Wildcats. That same year he appeared on the television show Miami Vice and the following year in the Michael Jackson music video “Bad” as his nemesis. He also appeared in the feature film Streets of Gold and Willie Mays Hayes’ Major League. The latter proved to be a huge box office hit and sparked a string of box office hits for Snipes.
