Shashi Tharoor was born in London, UK to Chandran Tharoor and Sulekha Menon and grew up in India. He has his two younger sisters namely Smitha and Shobha. His father, Chandran Tharoor, was from the state of Kerala in India and held various posts in Delhi, Kolkata, Bombay and London. He also worked as the group’s publicity director for The Statesman.
Shashi Tharoor’s paternal uncle, Parameshwaran Tharoor, was the founder of Reader’s Digest in India.
