Lawrence “Larry” David was born on July 2, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York to Rose and Mortimer Julius “Morty” David. His parents run a men’s clothing store and the family had very little money when Larry was growing up. During his studies, David realized his potential to make people laugh just by being himself. Larry began his career as a stand-up comedian while also working as a store clerk, limousine driver, and historian. His living conditions were pretty poor and he lived alone in a government-subsidized housing complex in Manhattan Plaza. In 1984, he became a writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live (SNL), where he met fellow actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who would go on to play Elaine on Seinfeld).
