Jon Favreau was born on October 19, 1966 in Flushing, Queens to Madeleine and Charles Favreau. His father was a special education teacher and his mother was also an elementary school teacher. She died of leukemia when Jon was only 13 years old. He is his parents’ only child.
In 1984, Favreau attended and graduated from Bronx High School of Science, a school for gifted students. He attended Queens College from 1984 to 1987 before dropping out and moving to Chicago in 1988 to pursue a career in comedy. His grandmother Joan Favreau was also an actress.

Early in his career, Favreau performed in several improv theaters in Chicago. He landed his first film role in the 1993 film Rudy. Although the film did not have much success upon its release, it became a hit thereafter. He reappeared in a college film PCU and landed a supporting role on the hit sitcom Seinfeld as Eric the Clown. To pursue his acting career, Favreau moved to Los Angeles. His breakout career as an actor and screenwriter came in the 1996 film Swingers, and he reappeared in another hit sitcom, Friends.
