Jim Gaffigan was born on July 7, 1966, in Elgin, Illinois, to Marcia Miriam and Michael Ambrose Gaffigan. His mother was a fundraiser while his father was the president and CEO of the Mercantile National Bank of Indiana. Both his parents were charity workers. Jim grew up in a large family with five other siblings, him being the youngest of all. His mother was an accomplished needleworker and the recipient of a national award for original design and craftsmanship from the American Needlepoint Guild. Gaffigan’s maternal grandfather was Iowa Supreme Court Justice Richard F. Mitchell. Jim earned a degree in finance from Georgetown University’s School of Business and worked as a litigation consultant after graduating.
Since 2003, Gaffigan has been married to Jeannie Noth and together they have five children, two daughters, and three sons. The couple met while they both residing in Manhattan to pursue their career and started bumping often into each other. In 1990, Gaffigan moved to New York to pursue a career in acting and comedy. During the day he worked in advertising to support himself financially while taking acting classes at night. He then started playing in comedy clubs at night and as a result, got fired from his job while caught sleeping at work. However, after struggling in the initial years of his stand-up career, Gaffigan did a successful stand-up routine on “The Late Show with David Letterman” in 1999 which turned out to be his career breakthrough. Jim began making various comedy albums and created several stand-up materials for TV channels and his popularity kept on increasing day by day.
