Murray was enrolled at Orangeville Prep in Ontario, where his father was an assistant coach. Jamal started showing his best game during his high school career and with his help, Orangeville Prep defeated many American basketball schools. He was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2013 Jordan Brand Classic International Game and again at the 2015 Nike Hoop Summit.
